Overview:

Coopesqui is a non-profit cooperative that provides various services to its members and general public, such as: Financial Services (savings and credit), Healthcare Center (clinic and pharmacy), marketing and export of specialty coffee, sale of roasted and grounded coffee, roasting services, sale of agricultural inputs and social projects.

 

Coopesqui was founded in 1964 by neighbors from the mountains of La Libertad, Huehuetenango with the support of Catholic Priests of Guatemala and a North American Priest of the Maryknoll Congregation.

 

Coopesqui plays an important role in the general development of the community, with more than 50 employees, they are an important source of employment in the area.

The Jesuit priests introduced coffee in Guatemala in 1773 and today the country produces one of the best coffees in the world.
Huehuetenango, at the foot of the Cuchumatanes, is the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America, it is one of the best regions of coffee production in Guatemala.

 

The coffee produced in the Highlands of La Libertad and neighboring municipalities in Huehuetenango, have been highlighted in the international market for its physical and organoleptic characteristics that make it an excellent quality coffee (gourmet).
 

COOPESQUI manages a production and commercialization coffee project of excellent quality. These coffees are produced under a protocol that contains technical, social, environmental and economic norms, which allows sustainability in small-scale production.

Coopesqui supports the coffee producers to improve their life conditions through the technical accompaniment in processes of production, industrialization and marketing of specialty coffee, normed under the slow food philosophy (good, clean and fair) adopted philosophy that allows us to guarantee the quality through traceable processes.

 

Currently, 200 coffee producers are participating in the specialty coffee project, exporting directly to buyers in Japan, United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and United States. They are seeking to grow the specialty coffee program year after year to help growers to access better markets and increase incomes.

Social and environmental impact.

Share between producers, consumers and participants in the coffee value chain, the union of traditional and modern knowledge to obtain a specialty production through traceable processes that guarantee healthy soils, plants and men and maintain a sustainable coffee growing for small scale producers.

Adherence and achievements:

Identification of producers with the commercialization model promoted by the cooperative's specialty coffee project. Sustainable commercialization of a minimum of 13 containers of 275 bags of 69 kilograms of specialty coffee. Export to demanding markets: Japan, London, Italy, Australia and the United States. Consolidation of long-term commercial relationships with buyer clients from the mentioned countries.
